What are Facials?

When I ask people, “What is your number #1 image concern?”, more often than not, they’ll say “My skin”… whether it’s an acne issue, a few more lines and wrinkles than we would like, hyperpigmentation and sunspots, or just keeping the skin looking younger, regular facials and a good skin care routine at home can help you maintain healthy skin, repair previous damage, and help prevent new damage from occurring.

Your skin is the first thing people notice and it says a lot about your overall wellness and health. As an esthetician, my job is to assist you in having the best possible looking skin!

So what is a facial and how can you benefit from regular salon visits with an esthetician?

A facial is a procedure involving a variety of skin treatments, including (but not limited to): skin analysis, deep cleansing, toning, steam, exfoliation, extractions, masks, chemical peels, moisturizing, and massage.

To get the best possible results, the 60 minute facial is standard.

After cleansing the skin, the skin is analyzed under a magnifying lamp and the condition of the skin is assessed… elasticity, lines, wrinkles, clogged pores, broken capillaries, tone, firmness, sensitivity, and age spots. Once the analysis is complete, the type of facial skin treatment you would receive is determined by your skin’s condition and the issues you would like to address.

Then comes the proper exfoliation which removes the build up of dead surface skin cells. Exfoliation could be an enzyme, lactic, or glycolic chemical peel in the strength that is right for your skin or a manual scrub.

Less lines, softer wrinkles, fading of hyperpigmentation, decreased acne are all reasonable results that can be expected when combining regular salon facial exfoliation and chemical peels with the right skin care products at home.

Then comes the facial massage! Potential massage benefits include:

  • improvement of facial skin and muscle tone
  • relaxation of facial and eye muscles
  • relief from tension headaches and facial pain
  • alleviation of stress and anxiety
  • overall physical and mental relaxation
  • It is the one of the best parts of the facial experience!

Following the massage, the right mask for your skin type is applied.

Masks work to hydrate, feed the skin with nutrients, calm sensitive skin, or brighten the skin…again, depending on your skin’s condition and what you are looking to achieve.

Sunscreen and moisturizer are applied and Voila! You are ready to show the world a rejuvenated, younger, and healthier-looking you!
